The Perfect Date: The Mountain House

The Mountain House Restaurant

When we think of a “perfect date,” we often reflect back on the dates that just kept going….perhaps meeting for coffee, turned into lunch, then a walk, followed by a movie, then wine,…and, well, then it was time for dinner.

Can you plan for such serendipity? Maybe, maybe. A good start for arranging such a date in the Silicon Valley is making a reservation for Table 8 at The Mountain House through RTM – The Romantic Table Marketplace™ at

Table 8 at The Mountain House is located in Woodside, high up King’s Mountain. The restaurant sits on Skyline Boulevard, between Hwy’s 92 to the north and 84 to the south. The stretch of Skyline Boulevard the restaurant sits on is one of the Bay Area’s most charming back roads and makes for an outstanding drive.

A perfect date at The Mountain House might start in Palo Alto at Stanford University. For the sports minded, a football game or other athletic contest on Stanford’s beautiful, sprawling campus would be a wonderful way to start the day. For the more artistically inclined, a visit to Stanford’s art museum – the Cantor Arts Center – or its Rodin sculpture garden, is always inspiring.

Leaving Stanford, take Page Mill Road west up to Skyline Boulevard. Although bucolic and spectacular, the drive should be avoided for those prone to car sickness as the road is windy and tight. However, it is a spectacular drive in the woods. Your next destination is wine tasting!

The Thomas Fogarty Winery is located at 19501 Skyline Boulevard in Woodside. The winery is widely known and well regarded for producing top tier pinot noir and chardonnay wines. You should enjoy a glass (not a lot more! Remember the drive!) and the outstanding views off of the Fogarty patio, as you while away the afternoon.

When the winery closes, head north on Skyline Boulevard up to The Mountain House where Table 8 awaits you. The Mountain House is currently owned and operated by Jerry and Lorraine Olsen, but it has been a fixture on King’s Mountain for decades. The ridge top mountain cabin features outstanding Californian and American cuisine. Dinner there is a perfect way to end the perfect day and date!
