Driving up the steep incline to La Quinta Cliffhouse Grill & Bar, you might expect its most romantic table to be in the dining room, with views of the Santa Rosa Mountains and Coachella Valley. But you’d be wrong. Instead head to the quiet outdoor back patio, to Table 55, next to a waterfall. The sound of the water rushing along the stones captivates and adds an almost musical accompaniment to your evening. The back patio abuts a wall of natural stone, unbroken except for wildflowers, peeping through the rock, and a sculpted mountain goat peering off the rock face. Flawless execution of classic American cuisine has made The Cliff House an exceptionally popular destination restaurant in the Palm Springs area for decades. The Blackened Catfish, served with white corn succotash and green onion aioli, is outstanding.
