Play tourist for a lark and take a cable car over Nob Hill on Hyde Street to Jackson. In this uber urban neighborhood of trendy wine bars and restaurants is Cocotte French Rotisserie, which specializes in homey traditional French fare like whole roasted chicken, Coq au Vin, Mussels Mariniere and Banana Crème Brulee. Tucked away, out of view from the entrance, is one of the most private of two tops in San Francisco—Table #1. The table is situated in an alcove, lit by a small lamp under a slanted roof painted a deep brown for an especially intimate feel. A burgundy curtain hangs, pulled to each side, affording even more privacy. Conversations from nearby tables quickly fade as the diners sit, enjoying a variety of fine wines and French comfort food, imagining themselves at a romantic Parisian café.
