Gitane is considered one of San Francisco’s most dramatic and romantic restaurants. The decor is inspired, it will grip you from the moment you walk into the restaurant’s entrance off of the charming alley, Claude Lane, in downtown SF. Inside, the lighting is warm and dramatic. We think you should start your evening early at Gitane; try to come before your reservation time and enjoy one of their creative cocktails in their downstairs bar. Gitane has long been considered one of San Francisco’s most romantic restaurants by renown San Francisco Chronicle restaurant critic Michael Bauer. Bauer observed, “The sophisticated dining room has a shiny polymer ceiling that reflects like a mirror, both opening up the space and giving it kind of a subtle funhouse effect. The corner booths always seem to be filled with couples, nuzzling, drinking and dining, heating up the people-watching element.” The corner table you want is Table 10, but if that’s not available, Table 3 is a great alternative. The food at Gitane is delicious – the cuisine is Southern French, with “influences” from Spain and Italy.
